Join Roots students, families, teachers, and members of the Oakland Education Association to stand up against the closure of Roots International Academy.
The school board is threatening to close 24 public schools in Oakland as a part of their plan to privatize the Oakland Unified School District. The first school up for closure is Roots, a middle school in East Oakland that serves primarily working class black and brown students.
Roots students, parents, and teachers have been organizing and fighting to keep their school open. The school board has heard their powerful voices loud and clear, but they still refuse to truly listen and engage with the community.
